Pumpkin's Scary Weekend
PumpkinCat Β· Orange shorthair Β· together 4 yearsBy the Tailwisp Editorial Team
It was a Saturday night when I noticed. Pumpkin kept going to the litter box, crouching, and coming out with nothing. He was crying in a voice I had never heard.
I had read about this. A urinary blockage in a male cat is an emergency. I called the emergency clinic on the way out the door. They told me to come right away.
He stayed for three days, with a catheter and fluids. The vet told me that if we had waited until Monday, the outcome could have been very different. I did not sleep for two nights.
Pumpkin is home now on a special urinary diet, and we have added more water bowls and wet food. He has regular checkups. He is back to chasing the red dot like nothing happened.
I am sharing this because I almost ignored it. If your cat strains in the litter box, cries, or produces little or no urine, do not wait. Call a vet immediately.
