Check a veterinarian's license in Nevada

Every US state licenses veterinarians through a state board. Before booking a new practice, especially for surgery or a specialty procedure, confirm that the vet holds an active license and has no discipline on record. The American Association of Veterinary State Boards keeps a regulatory board finder that points you to the Nevada board and its license lookup.

Emergency and poison help

If your pet is collapsing, struggling to breathe, bleeding heavily, having a seizure or may have eaten something toxic, call the nearest emergency hospital now and tell them you are on your way. For poisoning, these two services take calls any time of day:

• ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888) 426-4435
Available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A consultation fee may apply.
• Pet Poison Helpline (855) 764-7661
Available 24/7. A per-incident fee applies, with follow-up calls included.

How to choose a vet

Visit before you need them. Ask how emergencies are handled after hours, whether the clinic sees cats and dogs equally, how appointments and prices are explained, and whether the team uses low-stress handling. Our guide to choosing a vet covers the full checklist.
